Candyland vs Grape Ape

Both names were on the list of 14 that Oregon barred from cannabis packaging in 2016 as associated with toys, games or cartoon characters.1,2 The plants differ more than the names: Grape Ape is a Mendocino Purps, Skunk and Afghani indica that Leafly users call sleepy, relaxed and hungry, Candyland a sativa they call uplifted, energetic and happy, though both trace to Mendocino Purps, Candyland through Granddaddy Purple.3,4,5 In state labs Grape Ape tests lower: 18.42% median THC against 20.99% for Candyland.6

The 2016 list

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission’s temporary rule covered packaging and labels, not sales: existing products were not subject to immediate enforcement, and licensees could rename a strain or use its initials. The list also named Girl Scout Cookies and Cinderella.1,2 Grape Ape has its own guide in the Official Cannabis network at grapeape.com.
